Mandy Heffernan
Mandy is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) who is passionate about supporting children as they navigate their emotions, relationships, and everyday challenges. She believes that every child has their own unique strengths, experiences, and ways of communicating, and she strives to create a safe and supportive environment where children feel comfortable being themselves.
Mandy completed her Master of Social Work (MSW) at Columbia University. She has experience working with children in both school and outpatient settings, where she has supported children and families navigating a variety of emotional and behavioral concerns. Her experiences have helped her develop a compassionate and individualized approach to working with each child and family.
Mandy has experience working with children navigating anxiety, ADHD, autism, trauma, and other emotional and behavioral concerns. She utilizes a play therapy approach to help children express themselves, explore their emotions, and work through challenges in a way that feels natural and comfortable to them. She believes that play can provide children with a meaningful way to communicate and process experiences that may be difficult to put into words.
Mandy is especially passionate about helping children develop a better understanding of their emotions and recognize the connection between what they are feeling in their bodies and what they are experiencing emotionally. Through play, therapeutic connection, and individualized support, she works to help children feel heard, understood, and empowered to better understand themselves.
Mandy hopes to build a trusting therapeutic relationship with each child and family she works with and meet them wherever they are in their journey. She strives to create a space where children can feel safe exploring their feelings, building coping skills, and developing confidence in themselves.
